Back to the oral surgeon

Tomorrow morning I am headed back to an oral surgeon Dr. Gear, in Fort Myers, FL, to have 2 teeth extracted on the left side.  One on the top, 1 on the bottom.  Not happy about having to do this, but at this point I'm ready to be better.  I am willing to do just about anything I have to do to get rid of the infection.  I'm hopeful that this will solve all the problems on the left side and I can get my life back...

  1. Danielle, I am so sorry you have suffered with these problems for so long. I found your blog while looking for answers to why I have had severe pain in my gums where I had an extraction6 months ago. It just started and I went to my dentist, who time me it was a canker sore (!!) Never had one in my life. Started running fever and the pain has become so bad. I went to my regular MD today, who did decide I should have a trial of antibiotics. I already have so many of your symptoms and I have only had the problem for 10 days now. I have been sleeping way more than normal last several days, but had thought it was r/t being exhausted from an unexpected trip to MS where my mom had to have open heart surgery after a heart attack. But the pain in my mouth has persisted and increased, and when I swallow, it reminds me of when I have had strep throat, except it is in the jaw. The pain radiates forward to the molars next to where the molar was originally extracted. The pain also radiated into my ear, and my eye on the affected side began to itch today, and the side of my nose was tingling today as well. I am a little ticked that my dentist blew something this painful off as a canker sore. I just can't believe how severe the pain is in the jaw itself if I touch the gum where it's tender. I am determined after reading your story that I will NOT allow my illness to take that path. Thank you for sharing your journey so that hopefully no one else will have to go through the same struggles. Please keep us updated on your condition. BTW, I am an RN, so it does help to have some background knowledge of pathophysiology and human physiology to augment our sense that something just isn't right, and not just take the doc's word for it, right?

    1. I'm so sorry that you are suffering. I hope you found some relief in the last week.

I typed a great, but lengthy response to your comment and the computer ate it. I will re-write it tomorrow.

Feel better!! And that canker sore was were an abscess drained, NOT a canker sore.

    2. Hi Hhclermn,

I hope that you are feeling better. I hope the antibiotics wiped it out for you and it isn't really in the bone.

A couple things that I would suggest if you are still having problems. Get liquid vitamin C. There is one from Buried Treasure. Hold it in your mouth for about 30 sec in the area where you are having pain, then swallow. I was up to 2000 mg a day at one point. Another thing you can do, if you aren't allergic to iodine, get iodine from the health food store. Put a couple drops in 8 oz of water. Swish around in your mouth then spit out.

These will both help to fight the infection, but you need to find a doctor that will debride the area. If you can find a biological dentist that does cavitational surgery, that's your best bet. Hopefully you will find one that is willing to work with you and not argue with you like the one I saw does.

You would think being a medical professional that you would get respect. Hopefully you will. What I found was 78 incompetent and insecure doctors that weren't willing to listen to me and work with me, but were very quick to diagnosis me as crazy.

Best wishes. Please let me know how you are doing? Where are you located at?

      Danielle
